The Threads of Fate Lore

Realms and Peoples of Tir Elar

SPOILER ALERT

This page is best read after completing Book I as it contains information revealed during that story.

The series of Threads of Fate is set on the ancient mythical island of Tir Elar.

The island is split into various realms.

Aethrandis

Realm of the Mortals

Aethrandis is the southeastern heartland and stronghold of the Empire of Eternal Dawn. It is a realm of fertile river valleys, vast plains, ancient forests, fortified cities and isolated villages that have survived beneath Imperial rule for centuries.

To those born within its borders, the Empire teaches that Aethrandis has always existed beneath the blessing of the Sun God, Belenus. History, however, tells a far older story…

Most mortals will never cross the borders into other realms, as they have been taught that unchecked magic is a sin. Many believe neither the Tus Loryow or the Tylweth Teg still exist.

Yet, beneath the Empire’s carefully curated history - the old trade roads remain. Ancient pacts linger. And beyond the Veil, older powers have never forgotten the united realm that once stood as a single, mighty Empire.

Calendrith

Realm of the Tus Loryow

Amongst the oldest peoples in the world of Tir Elar, the Tus Loryow are the immortal elves who dwell to the southwest and occupy the Moon Throne.

Their name translates loosely as The People of Lore, reflecting a civilisation founded upon memory, truth and the preservation of history. While kingdoms have risen and fallen across Tir Elar since the dawn of time, the Tus Loryow have maintained libraries, courts and traditions stretching back thousands of years.

Where the fae are often associated with passion and power, the elves are remembered for discipline, scholarship and law.

Their cities are said to be carved from pale moonstone and silverwood beneath the light of the moon, where every oath is recorded, every lineage preserved. and every victory remembered and documented with care.

At the heart of their civilisation stands the An Lys Loryow which is the Court of Lore  - a body entrusted with safeguarding the collective memory of civilisation. Among the Tus Loryow, history is not merely studied; it is considered sacred.
To outsiders, the elves are reserved, enigmatic and slow to trust.

To themselves, they are simply the last custodians of a world sliding into destruction, since the first flame was extinguished many moons ago.

Eirian

Realm of the Tylwyth Teg

The Tylwyth Teg, translate as The Fair Folk, who are the immortal fae who once ruled to the northwest of Aethrandis, and historically have occupied the Sun Throne.

Renowned for extraordinary beauty, powerful magic and lives measured in centuries rather than decades, the Tylwyth Teg were once counted among the oldest races in existence in Tir Elar. To mortals, they have become legend- reduced to nursery tales and forbidden myths after centuries of Imperial censorship.

Avalor

Realm of the Druids

Far beyond the Empire’s northernmost settlements lies Avalor, a vast and largely unexplored realm shrouded in mystery and born of past deceits. Few mortals have ventured into its frozen forests, towering mountains and mist-laden valleys. Fewer still, have ever returned.

For centuries, Avalor has remained beyond Imperial control though inhabited by a secretive clan of mortals. Harsh terrain, unforgiving weather and countless forgotten dangers have ensured that no kingdom has ever laid lasting claim to its lands. Most are simply unaware of its existence due to the stranglehold the Empire of Eternal Dawn maintains on truths.

The region holds particular significance for those who seek admission to the legendary Order of the Blacks. Tradition demands that all prospective initiates journey north into Avalor, to undertake the Trial of the Blacks - a solitary and dark ordeal from which most candidates do not return. What occurs during the Trial remains one of the Order’s most closely guarded secrets.

Hidden somewhere beyond Avalor’s northern coast lies an island spoken of only in whispers. Veiled by swirling mists and absent from prying eyes, the sacred isle is said to exist beyond the reach of ordinary sailors. Some dismiss it as little more than an old legend. Others believe it to be older than civilisation itself. Whatever waits within its shores, has remained hidden for centuries…

The women

Women who have been silenced. Women who learned to shrink within the rules just to survive.

In Tir Elar, power has always belonged to someone else.

Now, the women are steeped in rage and beginning to disagree...

The Men

Men who have always commanded. Men who learned early to keep everything firmly under control.

Now, the men are learning what happens when it is taken away...
